Clinical trial recruitment landing page checklist
Make study information easier to understand and give prospective participants a clear, reviewed path to contact the study team.
SHAL Media · Field notes
A prospective participant may want to know what the study is about, where it takes place, and whom to contact. Build the recruitment page around those questions and review it with the team responsible for the study.
Write for someone seeing the study for the first time
Use plain language to describe the purpose and location. Include only eligibility details the study team has cleared for public use. Explain what happens when someone asks for information and who will contact them. ClinicalTrials.gov’s overview of studies gives useful context for the questions prospective participants may bring.
Plan the path to screening
Keep the enquiry step distinct from the study team’s assessment of eligibility. If the site uses a screener, confirm who owns it, where the answers go, and what the participant sees after completion. Ask the study team to review page copy, any translation, the form, and tracking before launch. The FDA’s recruitment guidance explains how it approaches review of direct recruitment advertising.
Test the page with realistic scenarios
Try it on a small phone and with keyboard navigation. Test whether the contact information works, how errors are explained, and whether the next step is clear when the site is closed. Verify that a test enquiry reaches the right team through the approved process. For the rest of the workflow, see clinical trial recruitment campaign planning .
