Google Ads lead tracking that measures qualified leads
Connect Google Ads to CRM outcomes so a form submission, a qualified lead, and a sale each have a clear role in reporting.
SHAL Media · Field notes
A form submission tells you someone raised a hand. A qualified lead tells you the sales team could work the opportunity. Define that difference before configuring conversion actions or changing bidding.
Define stages sales will actually use
Ask the sales team to document what qualifies a lead. For example, an enquiry might qualify once the team confirms the prospect fits the service area, has a relevant need, and can be contacted. Give duplicate and spam records their own disposition so they can be excluded without removing legitimate enquiries from reporting.
Connect the CRM outcome to the campaign
For eligible campaigns, follow Google Ads guidance for enhanced conversions for leads . Review consent, platform terms, and which data your organization is permitted to send before configuring an import. Give the downstream event its own conversion action. Test a record through the complete workflow and use the diagnostics to confirm the event arrived.
Read the numbers by lead cohort
A lead created Friday may qualify the following week. Compare acquisition cohorts at the same age, and track the share of leads with an unknown outcome. Suppose Campaign A produces 40 enquiries and 8 qualified leads while Campaign B produces 25 enquiries and 10 qualified leads at the same spend. Cost per enquiry favors A. Cost per qualified lead favors B.
Keep raw lead volume in the report as a diagnostic. Investigate changes in follow-up speed or CRM completion before attributing a quality shift to the ads. Use the paid media audit checklist to trace discrepancies.
